MAT101 - Introduction to Mathematical Thought

This subject is an introduction to the foundations of mathematics and mathematical thought that provides, first, a basis for further studies in mathematics, and second, a broad sweep of mathematical ideas for those who do not plan to study more mathematics but wish to appreciate the role of mathematics in liberal education.  The aim is to expose students to the basic structure of sound thinking, thereby increasing the clarity and force of their own thought and expression and aiding them in the intelligent analysis of the ideas of others.

MAT102 - Single-variable Calculus

This subject introduces the student to the main historical features of the differential calculus through three problems which motivate the subject. It builds on what has been done at high school and provides sufficient detail for the mathematically literate citizen to have a conceptual framework with which to view the physical world.
