Campion pushes back semester 2 start date due to Sydney lockdown

Classes at Campion will be pushed back one week and held online for a short period at the start of semester two due to the ongoing lockdown in Greater Sydney.

The College Executive came to this decision due to the heavy restrictions on movement and gatherings in Sydney, which look likely to extend beyond the proposed end date of 30 July.

Dean of Studies Luciano Boschiero said that while he knew this news is disappointing for students looking forward to returning to Campion for second semester, the move is intended to facilitate a return to face-to-face classes as soon as possible, and in a way that will maintain Campion's dedication to a high-quality learning experience.

“This is not how we hoped to start the last semester for the year, but we’ve decided on this particular course of action in the hope we can minimise online and hybrid lectures and tutorials, and have students return to campus as soon as they can,” Dr Boschiero said.

“We want to keep things as stable as possible for students, while being realistic about the possibility of further adjustments made by the NSW Government to the current set of restrictions.”

Under the new plan, Semester 2 will begin on Monday 9 August with classes moved online via Microsoft Teams for the first four weeks.

During this period, students are still welcome to reside on campus and the library will remain open for both residential and day students to support student learning.

Classes are set to return on campus on Monday 13 September.
