CSWT hosts book launch for Jamie Grant’s new collection of poems

17 Mar 2023

On Thursday the 16th of March, Campion College's Centre for the Study of the Western Tradition (CSWT) hosted the book launch for Jamie Grant's new collection of poems.

CSWT Director, Dr Stephen McInerney, remarked that it was a great pleasure to launch Hallucination, Mr Grant's latest volume of work.

"It has all the features that we’re used to in a Jamie Grant collection, wonderful poems inspired by stories about cousins and aunts and his mother; wonderful poems nature; wonderful poems about Australian cities," said Dr McInerney. He went on to highlight the poem 'Humility' as one of his favourites and commented on the rich imagery typical of Mr Grant's poetic style.

"I think the thing Jamie does better than anyone in Australian poetry is write about the cityscapes, capturing details - often sites under construction or the high rise buildings in the CBD resembling graphs on a page - and tying that in with the work that’s going on in a central business district, creating this sense on the one hand of a very familiar landscape but one that’s also rather alienating."

Following Dr McInerney's introduction, Mr Grant delighted those present with a reading of his poems. The evening concluding with book signing and refreshments.

Campion College and the CSWT would like to congratulate Mr Grant on this beautiful volume of poems. Copies of the book are available to purchase via Angus & Robertson and an audio recording of the event is available via the link below.
