Winter Workshops

Over five fun and informative days, Campion will be offering a series of free Winter Workshops for senior high school students and recent high school graduates (ages 16-20).

Hosted on campus with COVID-19 safety measures in place and led by our esteemed academics, our Winter Workshops provide the chance to develop your critical and creative thinking. This is the perfect opportunity to try something new, meet like-minded peers and get a taste of college life. Workshop materials and a light lunch will be provided.

Spaces are limited to just 12 students per workshop so get in quick to secure your spot. Please see below for workshop details and booking links.

Science, Art & Religion in the Renaissance

 

The Italian Renaissance was a great period of change that marked the transition from the Middle Ages to Modernity. This workshop will focus on key figures of the Italian Renaissance who helped shape the way we think about Man’s relationship with nature and the divine. After a morning lecture, students will read extracts from Leonardo da Vinci “Notebooks” before undertaking a creative task using the science of perspective.

Exploring Fiction Writing & Short Form Poetry

 

Calling all wordsmiths! If you’re looking for an opportunity to hone your craft, look no further. After a session on writing flat and round characters in fiction, students will take a closer look at short form poetry. Students will undertake a series of short writing exercises and have the opportunity to workshop their ideas with a published novelist.

 

If you are interested in English or improving your creative writing skills, this could be the workshop for you!

An Introduction to Liturgical Latin

 

Have you ever come across a Latin phrase and wish you knew what it meant? Designed for absolute beginners as well as those who have studied some Latin, this workshop will introduce you to the study of Latin through the prayers of the Roman Liturgy.

 

If you are interested in Catholicism or learning languages, this could be the workshop for you!

Moral Relativism: ‘To each their own’

 

Roughly speaking, moral relativism is the idea that there is no universal or absolute set of moral principles or truths. It’s an interesting philosophical position that has important ramifications for how we see our actions. After a morning lecture on the topic, students will discuss a range of case studies and consider the question, “What can you say in response to a moral relativist?” 

If you are interested in philosophy, morality or debating, this could be the workshop for you!

Theology in Film & Popular Culture

 

Justice, salvation, mercy, redemption… is this the teaser for a Biblical epic or the latest Hollywood blockbuster?! This workshop will explore how films in popular culture portray theological truths and motifs. After a morning lecture, students will be shown a series of film clips and examine contemporary cinema from a theological perspective.

If you are interested in theology or film studies, this could be the workshop for you!
