The Campion Bridging Program: Introduction to Western Civilisation provides a solid foundation for your tertiary studies in the liberal arts. It is an alternative entry pathway for students seeking admission to our three-year Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts or one-year Diploma of Liberal Arts.
The bridging program is self-paced and delivered through an online learning portal containing 13 pre-recorded lectures. This means you can start at any time and study at your own pace.
Students will be introduced to some of the great literary, philosophical, and theological texts in the Western canon that grapple with big questions including:
- Is freedom the most important political value? Is it compatible with social order?
- What is the meaning of life?
- Is reason our sole guide in navigating life’s challenges or should we rely also on divine revelation?
Throughout the bridging program, students will progress from viewing Western Civilisation as a fixed system of ideas and institutions towards an appreciation for Western Civilisation as an ever-changing battleground of different approaches to life’s great problems.
The Campion Bridging Program consists of 13 online lectures covering:

- European Monasticism
- The Reformation
- The Enlightenment
Literature
- Sophocles
- Dante
- Shakespeare
Philosophy
- Plato and The Republic
- René Descartes
- Friedrich Nietzsche
Theology
- Who was Jesus Christ?
- Theology of Thomas Aquinas
Upon completing the lectures, you will be required to submit a 1000-word essay in response to one of four essay questions.
There is no admission process to undertake the Campion Bridging Program. Enrolling is simple:

- Receive your login details and access the pre-recorded lectures.
The cost of this course is $299 for 6-month access.
Your access period begins from the date of payment.
Course sign-up and payment must be registered in your name in order to use this program as the basis for admission to our undergraduate degree.
The outcomes of this online short course are as follows:
- Exercise enhanced skills of analysis and critical thinking;
- Demonstrate an understanding of some of the key events and figures in the history of the West;
- Demonstrate an understanding of some of the debates surrounding the contested concept of “Western Civilisation;”
- Demonstrate an understanding of some of the seminal philosophical and theological ideas that have shaped, and continue to shape, Western society; and
- Demonstrate an appreciation of some of the literary masterpieces in the Western tradition.
Who is this course designed for?
The Campion Bridging Program is open to individuals aged 17 and above who have completed or are currently in their final year of secondary schooling (Year 12 or equivalent). It is ideal for students seeking admission to Campion College who:
- have not completed formal secondary schooling
- have not received an ATAR within the last two years
- have not completed recent tertiary studies (Cert IV or higher)
The online course must be completed no more than six months prior to your intended commencement of undergraduate study at Campion. Your essay should be submitted at least two weeks before the start of the semester. Semester start dates can be found here.
What does the course actually look like?
After paying for the course, you will receive login details for the Parousia Media online learning platform. Here you will receive access to 13 pre-recorded lectures from Campion’s esteemed academics as well as suggested readings to further your studies.
How long does it take to complete the course?
You will receive access to all 13 lectures at once and have the freedom to set your own study pace. Lecture times vary from 30-60 minutes however we recommend spacing out your studies so you have time to consult the suggested readings provided by the academics before moving on to a new topic.
All course content should be completed within 6 months of purchase.
When should I enrol?
Your essay and undergraduate application form should be submitted in the 6 months leading up to the start of your first semester as an undergraduate at Campion College. Click here to view semester start dates.
Will there be any conditions surrounding my enrolment in Campion College’s undergraduate program?
Yes, students who have gained admission to the Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts via the Campion Bridging Program will be required to complete STU101: Study Skills in their first semester of study.
Will I receive a qualification upon completion of the course?
No, this is a non-award short course that can be taken for personal interest however all students will receive a certificate of completion once your essay has been marked.
