On Friday the 1st of August, Campion College hosted a Eucharistic Procession which united students and staff in public worship and prayer. Despite the rain, dozens gathered in quiet devotion, walking with the Blessed Sacrament through the heart of campus.

While Eucharistic processions are traditionally held during the Feast of Corpus Christi, ongoing scheduling challenges around that time in recent years prompted the college to look for an alternative. Not wanting to let those conflicts get in the way, the community embraced the opportunity to mark the beginning of Semester 2 with a meaningful and visible act of faith. The idea had been to process through the surrounding streets, but inclement weather prompted a change of route, with the procession weaving through campus instead.

Campus Chaplain Fr Peter Kruk described the procession as a beautiful way to remember that we don’t leave Christ behind in the chapel.

“Every time we receive the Eucharist, we become ‘walking tabernacles.’ We’re called to be His real presence in the world, not just with incense and singing, but in our daily interactions, our speech, our humility.”

“The Mass ends with the words ‘Go in peace.’ We are meant to take the presence of Christ into the world. This procession was a beautiful reminder that our whole campus belongs to Him too.”
Students played a vital role in every aspect of the procession and their reverence and attention to detail did not go unnoticed.

“To see the students take so seriously their roles in the procession, whether that be serving, singing in the choir or being one of the canopy bearers, was a beautiful witness of unity and prayer,” said Student Life Manager Tony Mattar.

For second-year student Mariana Rebaza, the procession was both moving and formative.
“The Eucharistic Procession was a beautiful reminder that we must do ordinary things excellently, and that pleases the Lord. It is precisely by inviting Him into our ordinary lives, into our homes and the spaces where we study and work, that we are able to show our love for Him in our simple and little way.”

Plans are already underway to make the Eucharistic Procession an annual tradition, with hopes to expand its reach beyond campus in future years. “This was the first of many,” Fr Peter confirmed. “Stay tuned.”
