Honours Students Celebrated at Campion College’s May Formal Hall

Campion College was filled with celebration last night as students, staff, trustees, and guests gathered for the latest Formal Hall, which also served as the Honours Graduation Ceremony for our 2024 cohort.
The event began with the traditional academic procession, accompanied by a moving rendition of O God Beyond All Praising performed by students Sam Russell and Reshan Weerakkody. Master of Ceremonies Isaac Pople welcomed attendees and invited Trustee Mrs Erica Schuman to officially declare the ceremony assembled, warmly acknowledging the achievements of the graduands and the support of their families and friends.
Dean of Studies Dr Stephen McInerney presented the Honours students Anna Hitchings and Ashleigh Mills for the conferral of their degrees, with Ashleigh Mills awarded the Honours Medal in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement over the course of the year.
President Dr Paul Morrissey then addressed the gathering, congratulating the graduates and reflecting on the significant contribution an Honours year makes not only to a student’s academic development but also to the scholarly life of Campion College.
Following the ceremony and a formal dinner, the College community was privileged to hear from guest speaker Mr Tim James MP, Member for Willoughby. In his address, Mr James drew on his experience across politics, law, business, and public service to offer practical advice and encouragement to the graduating students and the wider student body.
“You are very fortunate young men and women to go to such a great institution, one of real depth and meaning and substance,” Mr James told the students. Encouraging students to pursue work that is both meaningful and fulfilling, he shared, “Work out what you love and make it your job… follow your passions, pursue your dreams, do work that is meaningful for you.”
Reflecting on the importance of values in both personal and professional life, he urged students to, “Know your values, espouse your values, and live your values… Be authentic, be consistent, be true.”
The evening concluded with a blessing from Fr Peter Kruk OP and the traditional singing of the Regina Caeli.
