As Week 3 of Semester 1 drew to a close, students were given the opportunity to step away from lectures, tutorials and the rhythm of campus life for a weekend of prayer, recollection and spiritual development.

The Campion College student retreat saw 60 students make their way to Benedict XVI Retreat Centre, replacing suburbs with a different surrounding of paddocks and trees. This peaceful environment allowed the students to enter deeper into the theme of the retreat, growing in their understanding of what it means to be ‘led by the Spirit of God’. The very first talk, given to the retreatants by Fr John Rizzo, showcased to them the beauty of this time. Retreat, he said, is the strategy of a soldier, not a product of his own cowardice, but in fact of his courage, recognising the need for renewal and a change of perspective. Additional guest speakers included Rod Mitchell and Campion College alumni Campbell and Rebecca Evans (Class of 2021 and Class of 2019, respectively).

As the retreat went on, the students spent time in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, absorbing the grace of God in His presence, and building connections with others. The weekend served as a time to refresh the students spiritually and prepare them for the year ahead. They returned to campus with Romans 8:14, the theme of the retreat, on their minds: “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God”.

A special thanks is owed to our college chaplain, Fr Peter, as well as the student chaplaincy team, David and Mariana, for their efforts in organising this retreat for the students and ensuring it ran so smoothly.
