Vale Cardinal George Pell

Campion College expresses its deep sadness upon hearing the news of Cardinal George Pell’s passing earlier today.

Cardinal Pell, 81, was a stalwart defender of the faith and he made significant contributions to the Church and society, both in Australia and abroad.

He was also a long-time friend and supporter of Campion College. His association with Campion predates the college’s opening in 2006 and his endorsement in early editions of the college newsletter played a vital role in spreading the word about the college and the importance of its unique purpose and mission in our early years.

Cardinal Pell remained connected with the college over the years and enjoyed delivering guest lectures to our students.

He also delivered the keynote address at our 2022 Capital Appeal Fundraising Dinner, where his frank assessment of the political, cultural and educational landscape in the country was met with a standing ovation.

We pray for the repose of his soul and offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
