Campion College is pleased to announce that expressions of interest are now open for its 2025 Early Scholars Program, a unique opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students – including home-schooled students in their final years – to gain university credit while exploring the foundational ideas of Western philosophy.

Running from Tuesday 30 September to Friday 3 October 2025, the four-day intensive will take place on the Campion College campus in Toongabbie. This year’s program centres on PHI101: Socrates and the Examined Life, a Level-100 philosophy unit built around a close reading of Plato’s Apology.

Students will engage in lectures and discussions led by Campion College academic Dr Jeremy Bell, complete daily readings, and take part in an oral exam after the course. Successful completion of the unit provides 6 credit points and offers an alternative admission pathway into Campion College’s Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts.

“Philosophy begins in wonder, and there is no better place to begin that journey than with Socrates,” said Dr Stephen McInerney, Dean of Studies at Campion College. “This program allows young people to experience the richness of the liberal arts while earning university credit and stepping into the heart of the Catholic intellectual tradition.”

The intensive is designed to replicate the rhythm and depth of university study, with classes scheduled from 10.00am–12.00pm and 1.30–4.30pm each day, and one hour of preparatory reading required daily. Students will be assessed primarily through an oral exam conducted online in the weeks following the course, along with class participation.

The tuition fee is $1,210, reflecting a 50% discount on standard unit fees. Participants will receive the required text (Plato’s Apology) in advance. Limited accommodation options may be available for regional or interstate students upon request.

Expressions of interest close on 21 July 2025, with the program proceeding subject to minimum enrolment numbers.
