Overview
This unit of study introduces Biblical studies from the perspective of Catholic life and teaching and offers resources for teaching this source document of Christianity to students. Students completing this unit will have a body of knowledge related to the Bible and its interpretation according to the Catholic Tradition for students in primary schools. Students will be able to undertake professional work in this field, and also use it as a basis for further learning.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate specialised knowledge of Church teaching related to the Bible as well as contemporary scholarship in this field.
- think critically and review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise relevant data in order to find solutions to complex problems related to the teaching of the Bible to primary school students;
- apply specialised knowledge acquired through this subject to generate and evaluate complex ideas related to teaching the Bible to primary school students;
- communicate an understanding of specialised, complex knowledge and theoretical concepts related to the teaching of the Bible and transfer this to students in primary schools;
- make high level independent judgements in a range of school-based management functions related to the teaching of the Bible in Catholic primary schools;
- initiate, plan, implement and evaluate concepts related to teaching the Bible and take personal responsibility for their own work and that of others within their sphere of authority.
