Overview
This unit of study introduces Biblical Studies from the perspective of the Catholic Church and offers resources for teaching, and praying with, the Bible in the adolescent religious education classroom. Students completing this unit will develop a body of knowledge related to the Bible and its interpretation according to the Catholic Tradition for students in secondary schools. Students will also learn about the great tradition of Christian prayer, the types of prayer and how to foster a life of prayer in adolescent students.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate specialised knowledge of Church teaching related to the Bible and prayer as well as contemporary scholarship in this field;
- think critically, review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise relevant ideas in order to find solutions to complex problems related to the teaching of the Bible and prayer to secondary students;
- apply specialised knowledge acquired through this subject to generate and evaluate complex ideas related to teaching the Bible and prayer to secondary school students;
- communicate an understanding of specialised, complex knowledge and theoretical concepts related to the teaching of the Bible and prayer to students in secondary schools;
- make high level independent judgements in a range of school-based management functions related to the teaching of the Bible and prayer in Catholic secondary schools;
- initiate, plan, implement and evaluate concepts related to teaching the Bible and prayer and take personal responsibility for their own work and that of others within their sphere of authority.
