Overview
This unit explores the theology and catechesis of sacraments and sacramentality. Students completing this unit will have a body of knowledge related to the education in sacramentality and sacraments of students in primary schools. They will be able to undertake professional work in this field, and also use it as a basis for further learning.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate specialised knowledge of Church teaching related to sacramentality and sacraments as well as contemporary scholarship in this field;
- think critically and review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise relevant data in order to find solutions to complex problems related to the issues of identity and mission;
- apply the specialised knowledge acquired through this subject to generate and evaluate complex ideas related to the teaching of sacramentality and sacraments to primary school students;
- communicate an understanding of specialised, complex knowledge and theoretical concepts related to the teaching of sacramentality and sacraments and transfer this to students in primary schools;
- make high level independent judgements in a range of school-based management functions related to the teaching of sacramentality and sacraments;
- initiate, plan, implement and evaluate concepts related to the teaching of sacramentality and sacraments and take personal responsibility for their own work and that of others within their sphere of authority.
